Gum Surgery

Gum Surgery Periodontal or gum disease is an infection that affects the gums and jaw bone, which can lead to a loss of gum and teeth. There are two major stages — gingivitis and periodontitis. Gingivitis is the milder and reversible form; periodontal disease is often more severe. In some cases, gum surgery will be required to reverse the effect of the disease. Periodontal disease is advanced gum disease and is caused by bacteria being allowed to build up on your teeth and gums without being removed through regular brushing and flossing.

These bacteria will gradually harden into a substance called calculus that is extremely hard, and which will irritate the delicate gum tissue, prompting the body to fight back. This results in the gums becoming inflamed.

Advanced periodontal disease can be a chronic condition, meaning it is not curable but we can control it.
